Content Security Concept:
Content security means getting control of the content of e-mails and their attachments, web pages and file downloads. The content that you are concerned about could include offensive material, corporate secrets being sent out, viruses and other malicious code, or just plain time-wasting web surfing. In most cases you can't simply deny the activity; e.g. e-mail is a corporate necessity, instead you need a tool to inspect each instance to see if it fits your policies.

The most obvious and dangerous form of malicious code distribution is via e-mail. Up to 95% of all virus infections come from e-mail. And what's worse, your company could be liable for damages through malicious code that you relay. Apart from this you are under threat from web scripts and objectionable material. You can stop e-mail abuse, fraud and resource depletion with a content security solution from Corona IT. Call us for e-mail checking and management solutions, secure messaging solutions, and network/ desktop surveillance solutions. We can tailor a content security policy to suit your needs and budget.

In addition to protecting your organization, properly configured content security enhances your credibility with partners and customers by informing them with every e-mail sent that you're using a content security solution to inspect all of your outgoing and incoming e-mail.

The Need for Content Security

A firewall provides perimeter security in that it stops hackers from accessing your network. It does not inspect or scan e-mail or web content. While some firewalls can be configured to drop suspect e-mail attachments such as VBS, it can't discriminate between a safe EXE and one containing a virus. A firewall also cannot stop hacker attacks on port 80 that are disguised in HTML traffic.

Anti-Virus software at the desktop level may not always be up to date. It does not have features like anti-spoofing, spam filters, web usage control & inspection of HTTP, FTP & SMTP. Content security at the server level and enterprise desktop content security work together to provide a centrally managed two-layered system of protection against content security breaches. In the absence of enterprise desktop content security, server/gateway level content security provides centrally managed protection of Internet traffic. Both types should be implemented when possible.

In summary, a content security gateway or services do not replace a firewall or your existing anti-virus software but complements it.
